Mommy: Another year older
October 4th, Mommy's day of birth, and today, well yesterday, I turned 27.
27 isn't really that significant of a birthday, no where as cool as turning 13 and becoming a teenager or turning 18 and being "legal" or even close to being 21 and being "everything legal". It's closer to 30, which I'm totally fine with. Getting older doesn't really phase me as much as it used to, I know it's going to happen and I'll become wiser and all that fun stuff. :)
My birthday was like any other day, wake up at 7am, make breakfast for Jay, get his lunchbox together, pack a snack, you know "the usual". But this morning was extra special because I got to sleep in, because daddy was nice enough to offer to take him to school! SLEEP. That's the best gift ever these days!
I slept in until almost 945am (SO late, right? lol) and did the usual, checked emails, checked messages, checked the moms group page, made breakfast and sat at the computer with my blanket and frappucino :) My daddy and niece came over and hung out for a little bit, we watched pop up video and laughed about all the crap music I used to listen to (anyone remember, NSYNC? LOL). Then I went about my day as usual, picked Jay up from school, brought him home, talked about his day, made him a snack, did his homework, etc.
Then it was birthday dinner time! I feel pressured every year to buy something cute to wear for the special day, but sleep and hanging out with family was more of a priority this year (must be the me getting older thing). So I got as dolled up as I could and went to meet some family and friends at PF Changs. Dinner was delicious and the company was awesome. I laughed until my face hurt, I got spoiled with amazing gifts and it really warmed my heart to spend my day with such genuine people.
Like I said, 27 might not be that significant of a birthday to most, but it's important to me. This year has been a crazy rollercoaster. I've lost loved ones, I lost my sweet puppy Kai, I've lost friendships that I thought were meaningful that ended up just teaching me a lesson in trust, and my baby started Kindergarten.
It's been a heck of year, but I've learned a lot. I've learned what true friends are, that some people just suck, what I can accomplish with God as my guide, how it's okay to say no every once in a while, and most importantly what I want in life and what my purpose is.
26 was a hard year but I'm certain 27 is going to be a GREAT year, and I can't wait to see all that I will accomplish and learn!
