Book Review: The 5 Love Languages of Children
A couple weeks ago I was contacted by the publisher to read and review this amazing book. It was truly an eye opener. I'm a mom to a very busy and active 6 year old boy. He's as sweet as can be but he has his moments where he acts out and just does things I can't explain. This book came in to my life at just the right time.
The 5 Love Languages of Children teaches you how to work around your childs specific need, how to communicate with them in their "language". This book will help you to discover your child’s love language. It breaks it down into 5 languages:
Once you discover your child's language you're able to discover the link between successful learning and the love languages. You will soon see how the love languages can help you discipline more effectively, with love. And it will help you to build self esteem and a foundation of unconditional love for your child.
My thoughts:
This book motivated me, it really put me in to action as a mom. I realized how quick I am to punish him for behavior at school but how I often forget to praise him on his acts at home. And this can make him feel incompetent and feel as if he's not enough. This is not something I ever want him to feel so now that I'm aware of it and aware of his love language we have a better line of communication. I quickly discovered that his love languages are acts of service and quality time. He wants to be with me yet he wants to do something with me. The small things, like, coloring, reading, cooking together, doing community service projects together, etc.
I highly recommend this book to any parent, whether you're new to the game or have been at it for years. It might just be the thing your family needs to go from common to extraordinary. After reading this I kept saying to myself, just imagine if every child was really met at their love language how much better a world this could be.
