Summer Learning

As a used-to-be-a-teacher mom, I know how important it is to keep kids learning over the summer break.  So I thought I'd share some of the things we're doing to keep this going.

We've started a summer journal that he writes in daily about what he's done, what he saw and who he was with.  This will help keep up his handwriting, reading and spelling skills.  Tricky mommy at her best ;).

Another thing we've started is a Summer Reading incentive.  For every book he reads, he gets .50 in his bank.  Let's just say, $10/week is going to have to be my cap on this.  He's reading 2-4 books a day!

Also, we are having so much fun participating in the Leap Frog Summer Camp for kids 4-8. If you have not signed up yet, check it out now,  you can join right in and start having some educational, hands on, and super fun learning with your children. The program runs until July 28, 2012 and you can join in, take a break, and then join back in again if you have vacation plans. Best of all the entire thing is FREE!

I have a lot of other ideas up my sleeve, here's a link to my Summer Learning Pinterest board that has tons of ideas!

I'll be sure to check in and post photos and any other ideas we come up with.  In the meantime, I'd love to know what you're doing to keep your child learning this summer!
