The Hills are alive with The Sound of Music! {Review}

Anyone that knows me well enough knows that The Sound of Music is not only my all time favorite musical but my favorite movie.  I wore out the VHS tape as a kid and have done the same with my DVD as an adult.

 Getting to see the musical first hand was a real treat and from scene one I was transported into my favorite story line with their elaborate sets, wonderful actors and dreamy musical numbers.  This is a musical for the entire family.  Your children might not understand the political story line but they'll fall in love with Maria and the Von Trapp children.  I will warn you that this musical is longer with an intermission, a lot like the movie.

Even though I've seen the movie 100's of times the musical on stage was something to witness!  The sets were exquisite and the costuming was something out of a high budget film.  I wanted to sing along to every musical number.  Do you know how badly it killed me not to sing along with the Von Trapp children, "So long, farewell..." excuse me while I sing it to myself yet again!

There were many standouts for me in this show.  Kerstin Anderson, takes your breath away as Maria.  Her voice is spot on with Julie Andrews and made the character so relate-able!  Ben Davis had all of the ladies in the audience in the palm of his hand with his swoon worthy good looks and unbelievable charm.  It was hard not to fall in love with Captain von Trapp!  And by far my favorite of the night was Charlotte native, Merwin Foard, who played Max Detweiller.  He is an extraordinary actor that really had all of us on a journey and all of us falling in love with his character that is otherwise forgotten about.  He was the star of the show for me!  And at the curtain call at the end he made sure to give patronage to his home town and the Carolina Panthers!

I was given complementary tickets to the opening night for my honest review of the show.
